To coincide with National Apprenticeship Week (February 9 – 15), Castle, principal contractor for the build of the new South Tyneside College and South Shields Marine School, is helping to launch the careers of five young people.

Community engagement activities around the relocation of South Tyneside College and South Shields Marine School have been growing in momentum since commencement of the build stage. The programme has a key focus on relationship building with schools, young people and students studying at the college and this is set to grow during 2026.

Hebburn-based, Castle, has launched a community and stakeholder engagement programme in its role as main contractor for the relocation of South Tyneside College and South Shields Marine School, part of Tyne Coast College.The £95m project is a partnership between Tyne Coast College and South Tyneside Council. It is being funded by Tyne Coast College, the North East Combined Authority, the Department for Education (DfE) and UK Government.

A striking riverside building in South Shields is set for a new lease of life as modern student accommodation, following the approval of a planning application by South Tyneside Council.The former BT business centre at One Harton Quay, which overlooks the Tyne, will be repurposed into a 125-bed student residence.

MULTI-MILLION POUND REGENERATION PROJECT UNDERWAY

South Shields town centre is set for major transformation, with a multi-million-pound regeneration project now underway.Work to deliver the relocation of South Tyneside College and South Shields Marine School has started on site.The scheme will see the college move from its current Westoe site into the heart of the town centre, with a new 15,000 sqm campus.

Award of Principal Contractor role for refurb of 50,000 sq ft industrial unit in Boldon

South Tyneside-headquartered, Castle, has been appointed as principal contractor for the full refurbishment of a 50,000 sq ft industrial unit at Didcot Way, Boldon Business Park. Castle was appointed by UK Land Estates to undertake a category ‘A’ fit out to oversee the conversion to a factory, office and warehouse unit.
