Next phase of works underway as refurbishment completed on Axis Building Level 3

The refurbishment of level 3 of the Axis Building, Maingate on the Team Valley, has been completed by Castle, as principal contractor.

Appointed by UK Land Estates, this was a continuation of works for Castle, having already completed the full refurbishment and fit out of levels 2, 4 and 5, plus the ground floor reception areas.

The Axis building offers a high-specification workspace designed for flexible business needs, ranging from private office rentals to day-use coworking space.

The works programme focuses on creating sustainable, modern office space, including rooftop plant replacement, solar panel installation and extensive interior fit outs.

This is one of a growing number of projects the company has been appointed to on behalf of UK Land Estates, having recently completed a full refurbishment of a 50,000 sq ft industrial unit at Didcot Way, Boldon Business Park.

The comprehensive scope of works for Castle included roof top plant upgrades including the installation of MEP services between the rooftop plant and within plantroom areas. The installation of new mechanical and electrical upgrades including new energy-efficient heat pump systems, public health installations and modern fire detection systems throughout the floorplate and plant areas. Internal refurbishment and finishes included new internal plastered partitions and MF bulkheads, internal glazed screens and doors, wall and floor finishes, and both general and specialist joinery within the kitchens and reception areas.

The MEP office strategy consists of the installation of new variable refrigerant flow units, ventilation ductwork, air source heat pumps, calorifiers, water heaters, above ground drainage, new lighting, small power, switchgear and submains cabling, a building management system, fire alarms along with mixed Category A and Category B fit outs and commissioning.

Craig Muldoon, divisional director, Build, said: “It is a privilege to have been appointed to such a notable building on the Team Valley and our thanks to UK Land Estates, with whom we have an established relationship, based on our proven track record for quality and delivery.”

Adrian Bartle, construction director at UK Land Estates, said: “This is a project which places sustainability at the forefront of activity, reducing carbon footprint and delivering a top-quality service for its occupiers.

“As always, it is vital we appoint trusted partners to deliver projects that demand high levels of technical expertise and strong quality controls. Castle provides that reassurance and as its team completes level 3, we look forward to work commencing on the full refurbishment and fit out of level 1.”
