
Award of Principal Contractor role for refurb of 50,000 sq ft industrial unit in Boldon
South Tyneside-headquartered, Castle, has been appointed as principal contractor for the full refurbishment of a 50,000 sq ft industrial unit at Didcot Way, Boldon Business Park.
Castle was appointed by UK Land Estates to undertake a category ‘A’ fit out to oversee the conversion to a factory, office and warehouse unit.
The building was formerly occupied by automotive component manufacturer, Faltec UK, who moved to a new facility on the nearby International Advanced Manufacturing Plant.
With its headquarters in Hebburn, South Tyneside and bases in Edinburgh and Glasgow, Castle employs 200 staff.
It has a long-standing relationship with UK Land Estates, who appointed the company as principal contractor for the Grade II listed, St George’s House and Maingate, both on the Team Valley, Gateshead and Castle is currently principal contractor for a 43,000 sq ft facility in Cramlington for Legrand, linked to the clean energy sector.
The Didcot Way contract follows shortly after Castle won a further contract in South Tyneside, for the relocation of South Tyneside College to South Shields town centre, including the construction of a new 15,000sq m campus.

Enabling and demolition works include complete removal of all asbestos and submission of a clearance certificate, removal and replacement of the roof system, wall cladding, curtain walling and windows and complete strip out of MEP services both internally and externally and replacement with new MEP systems.
Upon completion of a comprehensive refurbishment, the modern detached unit will offer high-quality office accommodation, including new aluminium-framed double glazing, sectional and personnel doors, with open-plan, modular office spaces, staff amenities and a canteen area, heating and comfort cooling systems and a dedicated staff car park.
A warehouse area will feature high bay LED lighting, roof mounted PV, the provision of a new substation with a high-power supply / dedicated 1.8 MVA capacity and gas central heating.
